INSTRUMENT RECOMMENDATIONS

FOR LESSONS:

If you do not already have an instrument to practice on at home, please see my recommendations for each instrument.

Piano: Acoustic uprights from Yamaha, Young Chang, and Baldwin are usually affordable. Please be aware these may require maintenance for tuning and functional purposes, but produce the best sound. Electronic pianos from Clavinova, Yamaha, Casio, RX Roland require little maintenance and may have extra functions that may spark interest for sound exploration. They may also require accessories like most synthesizers do. I don't care what you choose as long as you can practice, but I prefer my students to practice on acoustic first.

Keyboard: For system continuity, it will be helpful if the entire studio used the same model/brand. The brand I will be using for this studio will be the Yamaha PSR-S970 Series. If you call Sweetwater at1-800-222-4700 ext. 1287, mention the "Rolling Tones referral: Yamaha PSR-S970 package." You will receive the keyboard AND all necessary accessories for ~ $2000 total. For many of you who already have a keyboard, we may need to confirm whether or not buying a new keyboard is necessary. If you already have another keyboard that fits the same system as the PSR-S970 in older models, I will accept PSR 770, PSR750, PSR 950, but no lower. I'd like to keep this in the same format for uniformity if we decide to share files for future upcoming events.

Voice: Microphones, CD players, AMP with Aux capability is great. I won't require you bring it at the lesson, but you may need these things if you are to compete in certain categories in competitive leagues. If you have an accompanying instrument you like to play while you sing (e.g. Guitar), bring it.

If there are newer models of any of the instruments above that produce a better quality sound that you have seen on your search, please let me know and/or bring it to the lesson.
